Press Release: Betteridge Expands Ecommerce to Over 100 Countries With Borderfree

by on June 26th, 2014

New York – June 25, 2014 – Greenwich-based fine jeweler and watch retailer Betteridge today announced that it has partnered with Borderfree, a market leader in international cross-border ecommerce solutions, to expand its online customer experience globally. By partnering with Borderfree, Betteridge now offers international shipping to over 100 countries and territories worldwide in more than 60 global currencies.

“With Borderfree, we have extended Betteridge’s exceptional, personalized service to clientele around the globe,” said Win Betteridge, Director of Business Development, Betteridge. “I am proud that our international customers will now enjoy the same effortless online shopping experience as those purchasing domestically.”

Over the past decade, international sales grew to nearly 10 percent of Betteridge’s total revenue, but several elements of the company’s international business held it back from even greater sales abroad. The risk of international credit card fraud combined with the logistics of coordinating international shipping were too complex for the company to manage effectively at scale. By leveraging Borderfree’s technology and services platform, Betteridge can now present customers around the world with product prices in their preferred currency, guarantee the lowest possible total price including customs and taxes, and ensure seamless international shipping. Additionally, with secure international credit card transactions, Betteridge can offer its customers the flexibility and confidence they desire.

“Betteridge is already seeing significant demand coming from customers around the globe, and we’re excited to help them take their international business to the next level,” said Michael DeSimone, CEO, Borderfree. “Betteridge is a historic American fine jeweler and thus a natural fit for the slate of iconic brands we partner with and bring to international shoppers eager for American goods.”

“Borderfree provides the logistical support we need to expand Betteridge’s seamless online shopping experience beyond U.S. borders. We are excited to join the capabilities of Borderfree’s platform with the excellent customer service and exclusive selection for which Betteridge is known,” said Mr. Betteridge.

Mario Buccellati 1952-2012 Tribute Watch

by on October 13th, 2012

In 2012, Buccellati is commemorating its 60th anniversary in the United States. It’s a great moment for Buccellati and one that we are particularly excited to celebrate together. This year, Betteridge is celebrating its own 60th anniversary- in 1952, we opened up our headquarters in Greenwich.

In honor of Buccellati’s storied history and our longstanding partnership, we are proud to announce the Mario Buccellati 1952-2012 Tribute Watch.

Only 33 pieces will be produced for a few friends in the cities where Buccellati’s history has been written: New York, Beverly Hills, Chicago, Aspen and Greenwich.

For Greenwich, the watch is a limited, numbered edition of three (Buccellati’s US President is wearing number 2, but 1 and 3 are available, if you are looking for a truly special holiday present).

An Elegant Tribute to a Visionary Watchmaker

by on May 1st, 2012

Last year, A. Lange & Sohne announced the production of an extremely limited series of watches, commemorating the 165th anniversary of Ferdinand Adolph Lange’s founding of his Glashutte manufacture. We just received one of the first to hit US shores: the “Homage to F. A. Lange” Lange 1 Tourbillon.

The tourbillon incorporates remarkable features that you will not find in any other watch. The case is in 18k honey-colored gold- a proprietary alloy that Lange created for this watch series. The honey gold has an unparalleled warmth to it, almost resembling the elegant patina taken on by Lange movements (in German silver) in the years following their production. Moreover, the solid silver dial is stunning with its exposed tourbillon mechanism and hand-guillochéd hour & minute sub-dial.

Finally, the Homage version of the Lange 1 Tourbillon incorporates a movement so innovative it would have made F. A. Lange proud. This is the first tourbillon movement that can actually be stopped, even when the watch is fully wound. This enables for time to be set to the second and to allow better viewing of the exquisitely finished tourbillon escapement.

Limited to 150 pieces worldwide, this watch is a collector’s dream come true.

Betteridge & the Creation of the “Million Dollar Belt”

In 1989, the WWE approached Betteridge with an exciting request: to design and manufacture a championship wrestling belt for Ted Dibiase, the Million Dollar Man. We just found this wonderful clip of the WWE’s footage surrounding the creation of the “Million Dollar Belt.”

Rolex Submariner Date: The King of All Luxury Dive Watches

by on December 1st, 2009

Submariner Date, ref. 116619, 18k white gold

The new Rolex Submariner with the blue dial is my favorite men’s watch. It incorporates a number of features that I appreciated in early subs, such as the now retro-styled cerachrom bezel.

However, it looks a little bigger on the wrist, due to the larger lugs and crown guards, and feels heavier thanks to the solid gold case and bracelet. This is a watch that you can wear with pride in the office, scuba diving with your family or doing work in the yard.

The Bell & Ross BR-S Ceramic: Chic Watches for the Coolest Girl You Know

Bell & Ross BR-S Ceramic with Diamond Bezel, Retail $4,800

Dad and I gave the white ceramic version of this Bell & Ross to my sister, Brooke, for her birthday.

Brooke is hands-down the most fashionable girl I know, so the fact that she has barely taken it off since she unwrapped it is the perfect testament to just how special the Bell & Ross BR-S Ceramic collection is. Technology Meets Tradition

by on October 1st, 2009

We are old fashioned. We like knowing customers’ names and trading stories with them on Saturday afternoons. We like writing out repair slips by hand and working on sales cases that were built by my granddad before World War II. Technology often makes companies impersonal, and that’s the antithesis of who we are.

Six months ago, fresh from a Bay Area Internet company, Dad tasked me with finding a manner to incorporate leading technologies into our business without losing what makes us special.

To this end, we just launched a new and greatly improved The online jewelry and watch industry is riddled with forgeries, poor customer service and shoddy products. Through our website, we will do our best to extend the Betteridge experience- our talented sales staff, our access to nearly impossible to find products, and most importantly, our personality- to people who may not always find it convenient to visit us.

Today, displays exemplary pieces for each of our different jewelry and watch designers. Eventually we plan to load the nearly 10,000 products that we carry onto our website in an elegant and searchable manner. For instance, in the near future, we are launching new sections that showcase our leading estate jewelry and pre-owned watch collections, so that you will be able to view our newest finds, even if you can’t come into a store.

The goal of the website is not to replace interaction in our stores with e-commerce, but rather to make it easier for customers to figure out what they want and how we can really help them.
