Movado Tom Brady Limited Edition Chronograph, 18k Rose Gold, $17,500, comes with handwritten note from Tom about the watch

Over the last few years, it has been my privilege to get to know Tom Brady. He is an extraordinarily talented athlete for sure, but something many people may not know about him is just how wonderfully generous he is as well.

Best Buddies

A few days ago, Tom, an avid watch aficionado, asked me if I would help him sell two of his most treasured possessions to benefit one of his beloved charities:

Best Buddies is a non-profit organization “dedicated to establishing a global volunteer movement that creates opportunities for one-to-one friendships, integrated employment and leadership development for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD).”

All of Betteridge’s proceeds from these sales will go to this fine charity.

If you are interested in purchasing either of these spectacular timepieces, please call me at (203)869-0124, e-mail me at, or come visit Betteridge at 117 Greenwich Avenue.

Better by Design: The New Betteridge Collection

by on September 7th, 2010

Better by design is as much a process as it is an attitude. Every aspect of the design process, from overall concept to the smallest detail, contributes to the unified expression of the whole.

Widely regarded as one of the pioneering masters of modern design, German/American architect Ludwig Mies Van der Rhohe established the foundation for a design vocabulary based on his famous dictum, “less is more.” Every aspect of his design process was focused on achieving this philosophical goal.

It is with much the same deliberation and attention to design perfection that we have approached the development and creation of our new Betteridge Collection products. Every aspect of the product development process results from the desire to achieve design perfection while staying true to our core values.

The goal is to provide an easy, natural and emotional connection between the wearer and the product. Only then is a finished piece worthy of the Betteridge Collection hallmark.

Solaris: Betteridge's New Home in Vail

Tripling plus, actually… Betteridge Vail will be moving to get much more room, build the world’s first “Watch Bar” and make a “Customer’s Club” in the English sense of the word. Massive displays for Rolex, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, IWC and Cartier will fill much of the new space; of course, Van Cleef will keep a special place in our plans, as will the rest of our jewelry designers.

Our new digs will be in a friend’s new place, the Solaris building, the most creative and best built structure in town, looking right up the main lift slope, ready for business by Thanksgiving.

John Reardon: A Legend in the Watch World Joins Betteridge

by on April 1st, 2010

John Reardon, Director of Vintage & Estate Watches

I am delighted to welcome a great friend and longstanding business colleague, John Reardon, to Betteridge. John joins us in a newly created capacity as Director of Vintage & Estate Watches – a role dedicated to assisting customers as their ‘personal curator’ in the assessment and creation of outstanding watch collections.

John’s early passion for all things horological brought him to Sotheby’s New York where he became a noted expert in watches and clocks. After five years in the auction world, he joined Patek Philippe and represented the brand for almost a decade. During this time, he completed writing the first book wholly dedicated to the venerated watchmaker: Patek Philippe in America, published by Cefari Publishing in 2008. It has become an international bestseller in the watch community. Technology Meets Tradition

by on October 1st, 2009

We are old fashioned. We like knowing customers’ names and trading stories with them on Saturday afternoons. We like writing out repair slips by hand and working on sales cases that were built by my granddad before World War II. Technology often makes companies impersonal, and that’s the antithesis of who we are.

Six months ago, fresh from a Bay Area Internet company, Dad tasked me with finding a manner to incorporate leading technologies into our business without losing what makes us special.

To this end, we just launched a new and greatly improved The online jewelry and watch industry is riddled with forgeries, poor customer service and shoddy products. Through our website, we will do our best to extend the Betteridge experience- our talented sales staff, our access to nearly impossible to find products, and most importantly, our personality- to people who may not always find it convenient to visit us.

Today, displays exemplary pieces for each of our different jewelry and watch designers. Eventually we plan to load the nearly 10,000 products that we carry onto our website in an elegant and searchable manner. For instance, in the near future, we are launching new sections that showcase our leading estate jewelry and pre-owned watch collections, so that you will be able to view our newest finds, even if you can’t come into a store.

The goal of the website is not to replace interaction in our stores with e-commerce, but rather to make it easier for customers to figure out what they want and how we can really help them.
